Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has joined other statesmen in sharing his condolences with the Rawlings family following the sudden death of former President Jerry John Rawlings.

According to him, the news of the disappearance of his predecessor and former nemesis “was a thunderbolt for us and our children.”

He said that although they had not always agreed on many matters, he felt that Rawlings had always been trying to do the best he knew how and could for the glory of the country, even in the peculiar circumstances in which he had found himself.

“In this sense, the doubts that persisted about his commitment to democratic government were attenuated and earned him a legacy of contributing to the maintenance of democratic governance in our country until his disappearance,” said Kufuor.

He added that “history would give it a balanced place in the annals of our nation.”

Furthermore, he expressed his sorrow for the family of the late former president and wished him peace in the afterlife.

“We now have to mourn him and also express our condolences to his widow, Ms. Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, his children and the family in general.

“May he rest in peace in the mercies of the Lord God,” concluded the statement by former President Kufuor.

Former President Jerry John Rawlings had passed away on the morning of Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Korle Bu University Hospital after a brief illness.

He is survived by his wife and four children.
