The Kwahu Traditional Council and the Ministry of Local Government have commended MPraeso MP for the constituency Seth Kwame Acheampong for the magnificent role he played when the district was elevated to a municipality after 32 years of establishment.

It was established in 1988 under LI 1988, Law 1742. Mpraeso is the district capital.

However, the District has given birth to four other municipal districts in the Kwahu block, namely: West Kwahu Municipal Assembly, East Kwahu District Assembly, South Afram Plains and North Afram Plains District.

Addressing a meeting on the Assembly Hall esplanade on Friday, November 27, 2020, Vice Minister of Local Government Nana Agyei Boateng, speaking on behalf of his boss, Hajia Aliu Mahama, revealed the “most important” role played by the Mpraeso legislature, Mr. Seth Acheampong during the process that led to the opening ceremony of the newly born Municipal Assembly.

According to him, the recommendation and attitude of the MP towards implementation were exceptional.

He took the opportunity to instruct the Assembly to work assiduously to ensure successful revenue mobilization.

He expressed concern about the Assembly’s inability to mobilize revenue attributing it to residents’ failure to pay property fees.

“Nananom, when you come to Kwahu, there are beautiful mansions but the property prices are low. Now that it has been elevated to municipal status, it has a mandate to ensure its ability to mobilize funds. “

Mr. Agyei Boateng said that the objective of elevating the Assembly from district to municipal was to achieve sustainable, equitable and balanced socio-economic development within a decentralized environment. He said the new Municipal will strengthen leadership and capacity at all levels of the decentralized government machinery and create an environment conducive to enhancing the development of urban and rural areas.

Present at the opening ceremony were Mpraesohene, Nana Ampadu Daaduam II, who presided over the program along with Obohene and several chiefs and queen mothers from the area; the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon Eric Kwakye Darffour; The MP for the constituency of Mpraeso Hon Seth Kwame Acheampong; Hon Yaw Owusu Addo, Kwahu West Municipal Executive Director; Past and Present (Emmanuel Attah Ofori Snr) DCE and Area Presiding Members; Members of the assembly; some faithful of the party, among others.

Additionally, on his own Facebook page to celebrate the story, Mr. Seth Kwame Acheampong wrote: “Okwawuman thanks President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for elevating Kwahu South to a municipality. This means more personalized and community-led development programs for Kwahu South. We are excited that the hard work of political leaders and department heads, in concert with Nananom, has paid off under the leadership of His Excellency the President… .4more to do more for you. “

Speaking on behalf of Kwahuhene Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, Nana Abra Appiah said MP Seth Kwame Acheampong informed Nananom about his plans to change the district to municipal two years ago.

“Two years ago, Kwame Seth informed me about his plans to change this District to Municipal status, another thing he mentioned was the Mpraeso Traffic Light. He has served Kwame well and has left a legacy. Thank you, ”said Nana Abra Appiah.
