Special counsel Martin Amidu has hit former president John Dramani Mahama hard for labeling him a coward by delaying investigations into the controversial Airbus bribery scandal.

It should be recalled that Mr. Amidu in his corruption risk assessment report on the Agyapa deal gave an update on his investigation into the Airbus scandal and said that he is convinced that John Mahama was involved in irregularities.

He also said that he kept the investigation into Mahama’s alleged involvement in the infamous scandal until after the December 7 general election.

But Mr. Mahama said the postponement of the special counsel was only an attempt to protect the government from the controversy surrounding the transaction.

In his latest reply to the former president, Amidu said that Mr. Mahama’s comments show the latter’s lack of understanding on security and intelligence issues.

“The long public service of the Special Prosecutor that covers various aspects of security and intelligence from the period from 1982 to January 7, 2001 and from July 2009 to January 2012 gives him more experience to determine when it is not conducive to the interest of national security take certain actions of public order. The Special Prosecutor owes this exercise of discretion to his vast experience over the years, his responsibility to maintain national stability and his conscience as a patriotic anti-corruption crusader for Ghana. “

He added: “It’s not about stupidity or cowardice about it. Anyone who aspires to be president of Ghana for a second term who does not know that a cardinal principle in security and intelligence is that “precaution is the best part of courage” was not worth or deserves the vote.

Meanwhile, Martin Amidu, who has defended Mahama’s guilt in the bribery scandal, has also challenged the former to voluntarily submit to questioning about the case.

“Your Excellency, the wise and courageous former President John Dramani Mahama, tall man, wise and brave enough to come with two attorneys of your own choosing to be warned and questioned by this Office to demonstrate your courage and wisdom. how not to be elected a Government Official 1 and also how not to be the first guarantor of Samuel Adam Mahama’s passport application, ”Amidu said in a statement issued on Monday, November 9, 2020.

John Mahama accused the Special Prosecutor of deliberately mentioning his name and the Airbus scandal in the Agyapa report in an attempt to level the irregularities.

The former president said Martin Amidu’s move was just a diversionary tactic.

“If you have investigated Airbus, please file a report on Airbus. Knowing that the Agyapa report will be damning for the government, you entered a paragraph about Airbus. Nobody asked you about Airbus. If you were man enough, file two separate reports on the Agyapa royalty deal and the Airbus scandal [so I can respond to you]. “

“If you think I have been charged with the Airbus scandal, take me directly. But since he is a coward and knew that the Agyapa royalty agreement will be discussed today, he added a paragraph about Airbus to level the discussion, ”he added.
