The municipal chief executive of Atebubu-Amantin, Hon. Edward Owusu has informed the regional minister of Bono este Hon. Kofi Amoakohene and the regional public health emergency committee about the activities that the assembly has undertaken so far in the fight against the covid-19 pandemic.
The briefing was part of a two-day tour that also took the minister and his team to Pru East and West, as well as the Sene East and West districts.
According to the MCE, the assembly has acquired around 800 buckets of veronica, in addition to the 100 received from the government, as well as an undisclosed number donated by the regional minister of Bono Este, who incidentally is a member of the Atebubu-Amantin Parliament.
He said that these buckets, in addition to accessories such as hand sanitizers, liquid soaps and paper tissues, have been distributed to government institutions, traditional councils, Zongo chiefs, markets, truck parks, health centers and communities, among others, to assist in effective handwashing, adding that the assembly has distributed more than 3,000 hand sanitizers in the municipality.
He said that in order for water to be available for these hand washing facilities, 2 Rambo 1000 polytanks and 4 Rambo 250 polytanks have been installed in various markets with another 2 Rambo 500 polytanks online for installation.
Hon. Owusu told the minister and his team that to effectively send the covid-19 message, the assembly has involved traditional authorities, religious leaders, merchants, transport operators and other identifiable bodies. It has also used radio and supported the Department of Information Services and outreach programs in the field of the National Commission for Civic Education in the communities.
However, he mentioned the arbitrary increase in transportation rates by drivers and the lack of adherence to social distancing as the main challenges facing the assembly.
Bono East Regional Director of Health Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng noted that 80% of infected people show no signs of covid-19, adding that isolation and quarantine are very important for disease control.
Bono East Hon Regional Minister Kofi Amoakohene said the government is doing everything possible to ensure the safety of all Ghanaians and said all decisions made by the president regarding covid-19 are based on sound technical advice .
Subsequently, the team inspected a two-room, 16-bed facility, designated as an isolation center at Kokrompe High School, water facilities in Atebubu, as well as some hand washing facilities.
