The Ghana Procurement and Supply Institute (GIPS) has suspended the former Executive Director of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Adjenim Boateng Adjei.
The embattled former chief of the Authority’s CEO was fired last week by the president on the recommendation of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
The Presidency ordered the Commission to investigate whether there was a conflict of interest in the award of contracts by Mr Boateng Adjei to a company in which he had interests.
Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, in his documentary ‘Contracts for Sale’, found that Talent Discovery Limited, the company of the fired PPA boss, was winning contracts in a restricted tender.
The GIPS Governing Council noted in a press release that prior to the CHRAJ’s findings, it extended a formal invitation to Mr. Boateng Adjei to meet with its Disciplinary Committee, regarding its constitution and codes of ethics.
But the disgraced CEO “did not comply with the invitation without good cause.”
Consequently, the Council has indefinitely suspended its membership and is committed to keeping the general public updated with developments on the matter.
“In view of the aforementioned and subsequent violation of Article 13 of the GIPS Code of Ethics pertaining to conflicts of interest, Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei is suspended as a member of the Ghana Procurement and Supply Institute,” the statement read .
