The Ghana Police Service says it is preparing to launch an investigation into the alleged use of its vehicles and personnel in partisan campaign activities ahead of the December general election.
According to the Service, the law contravenes the principles that support the basis of the security establishment.
“The administration does not sanction acts of that nature,” police said.
In a press release signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Superintendent Sheila Abayie-Buckman, the development involved the removal of “videos and photographs that showed people with political party identity apparently gathering in police vehicles.”
In addition, the October 2 statement, the matter has been sent to the appropriate rooms for investigation.
“Police Inspector General James Oppong-Boanuh has the director of the Director General’s Police Professional Standards Office (PPSB) to investigate and report on the matter, so that officers found guilty are punished in consecuense”.
The communiqué also assured public opinion of the neutrality of the police in the political sphere, especially in the absence of two months before the country’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
