The owner of Berekum Arsenal FC, Alhaji Yakubu Moro
First Division Berekum Arsenal FC owner and financier Alhaji Yakubu Moro has been confirmed dead in Accra.
Alhaji Moro passed away Thursday night after a brief illness at Ridge Regional Hospital.
The renowned and outspoken football administrator has been unwell for a few weeks and was receiving treatment in Berekum.
His condition was not improving, so he was taken to Accra, but all efforts to keep Alhaji Moro healthy failed.
Under Alhaji Moro, Berekum Arsenal won promotion to the Ghana Premier League in 2000 and remained until 2013, where they were relegated.
In 2006, the Berekum club qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup, but was eliminated in the second round by the Angolan giant Petro Atletico.
They had eliminated the Congolese Diables Noirs in the first round of the competition.
Alhaji Moro will be buried on Friday according to Islamic practices.
