Real Madrid would like to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, but there is still a key aspect of the deal on the way.
The rumor mill is all over the place when it comes to David Alaba and Real Madrid, but hey, what else is new in the world of soccer transfers?
Currently, Real Madrid is working hard to renew Sergio Ramos’ expiring contract, as keeping the captain at the Santiago Bernabéu should be the number one priority for Florentino Pérez to start in 2021. Ramos is invaluable to the team as the club performances in the Champions League without him has shown us.
That said, in case the Real can’t keep him, they’ve focused on Alaba as an insurance option. And if they manage to re-sign Ramos, Alaba could be a potential partner for him as a center-back, a relief for Ferland Mendy as a left-back instead of Marcelo, or even depth in midfield if necessary.
There has been some positive news regarding Alaba’s chances of joining Los Merengues on a contract expiration, but Goal.com reports that the defender’s salary request is a “roadblock” on the road to a deal.
David Alaba wants 13 million euros a year from Real Madrid
That in itself isn’t a surprise, but it’s noteworthy considering how closely Alaba and Real are linked. Goal.com reports that Alaba is looking for € 13 million a year, which would supposedly make him a higher earner than Ramos, who is the highest paid player on the team at the moment. And if we’re honest, it’s not a great idea to give Alaba more money than Ramos, especially in the middle of negotiations with No. 4.
The situation with Alaba seems complex. He wants to join Real Madrid above. the others, but PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City are a trio of clubs with a LOT more financial flexibility than Los Blancos at the moment. And considering Alaba wouldn’t be a regular club starter, the salary demands should make the Madridistas wrinkle their faces a bit.
Alaba is a great player, but no fan should consider him a done deal, nor should he applaud a “free” transfer without his due scrutiny.
