The more we adhere to Covid-19 security protocols, the faster we defeat the virus – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has called for stricter adherence to Covid-19 security protocols, as the declining number of active cases has seen an increase lately.

He warned against rejection of safety directives, such as wearing face masks and practicing good personal hygiene.

This follows the recent rise in daily infections in the country after previous figures were lowered.

In his 19th address to the nation on measures to deal with the global pandemic, the president called for the observance of safety directives established by the Ghana Health Service (GES).

“It is very clear that the more we adhere to the security protocols of Covid-19, the faster we defeat the virus,” he advised.

President Akufo-Addo further stated that he has personally observed that people are exercising caution regarding Covid-19 security protocols.

“I have seen first-hand how in some regions of our country, some residents are completely abandoning protocols such as the use of masks, implemented to defeat the virus,” he said Sunday.

He cited the sharp decline “from 44.3% to 5%” in adherence to security protocols in Accra, according to survey reports from the Ghana Health Service (GES).

“This is not acceptable as improved hygiene and mask use protocols must now be central features of our lives,” he said.

“There are severe penalties in our law for people who want to continue to violate these protocols and who want to endanger the rest of the population with their actions and negligence.

“The law enforcement agencies will apply, when necessary, these measures without fear or favor,” added the president.
