The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has begun a community stakeholder engagement with the western region’s Jomoro Municipality for the acquisition of a 20,000 acre parcel of land for the Petroleum Center.
It should be remembered that in March 2019, the Cabinet gave approval for the establishment of the long-awaited oil center in the Western Region to house all infrastructure projects in the oil industry.
Technical advisor for the proposed 12-year-old oil hub development project, Dr. Eric Yeboah, speaking to reporters on Saturday, November 28 in Bonyere, revealed that the hub is expected to attract more than $ 60 billion in investments to Jomoro and its surroundings where the project takes place. will be located.
“The minister has met this commitment with stakeholders mainly because surveyors are working in other communities to access land and access crops to pave the way for compensation payment, so this is another stage of the conversation we’ve been having for the past two years. We have to meet the people of Bonyere as part of the ongoing community commitment to acquire 20,000 acres of land in the western Nzema area, specifically in Jomoro, ”revealed Dr. Yeboah.
By providing details on crop compensation, the government stressed that it has obtained sufficient funds to liquidate all legitimate compensation.
Dr Yeboah reiterated that the goal of the oil hub is to meet the demands of the West African sub-region and eventually the entire continent and to further develop Ghana’s oil subsector.
