The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has begun a community stakeholder engagement with the Western Region Municipality of Jomoro for the acquisition of a 20,000 acre site for the Petroleum Center.
In March 2019, the Cabinet approved the establishment of the long-awaited oil hub in the Western Region to host all infrastructure projects in the oil industry.
Technical advisor for the proposed 12-year oil hub development project, Dr. Eric Yeboah, speaking with reporters on Saturday, November 28 in Bonyere, revealed that the hub is expected to attract more than $ 60 billion in investments to Jomoro and its surroundings where the project takes place. will be located.
“The minister has met this commitment with stakeholders mainly because surveyors are working in other communities to access land and access crops to pave the way for compensation payment, so this is another stage of the conversation we’ve been having for the past two years.
“We need to meet the people of Bonyere as part of the ongoing community commitment towards acquiring 20,000 acres of land in the western Nzema area, specifically Jomoro,” revealed Dr. Yeboah.
In providing details on crop compensation, he emphasized that the government has secured sufficient funds to liquidate all legitimate compensation.
Dr Yeboah reiterated that the goal of the oil hub is to meet the demands of the West African sub-region and eventually the entire continent and to further develop Ghana’s oil subsector.
