The ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) in the Akatsi North constituency is hoping to wrest the parliamentary seat in the opposition stronghold for the party in the 2024 general election.
Akatsi North since its inauguration in 2012 has continuously voted for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its candidate, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe as a Member of Parliament (MP).
However, Dr. Prince Sodoke Amuzu, the area’s District Executive Director (DCE), in a speech at a PNP stakeholder interaction on Ave Dakpa, congratulated the executives on their good deeds from the registration exercise to last month’s elections and declared 2024 as the time of “Akatsi North NPP MP”.
The meeting, which was attended by executives from past and present constituencies, was part of the agenda to draw up plans for the next four years in an attempt to realize the ambitious goal of a PNP deputy party for the area.
Dr. Amuzu told the constituency, the campaign for a decisive victory in 2024 for the party had started from the day that President Nana Akufo-Addo was inaugurated on January 7 and called on everyone to pray that they could achieve their Individual aspirations, gathering resources and with unity of purpose, work to fulfill the “Amewu magic”.
“We will win the Akatsi North parliamentary elections in 2024, believe me. And that work begins today.
We should not wait for election time to start looking for votes. We need unity and more unity of purpose for our constituency to succeed.
The results of the 2020 elections are the product of our unity of purpose, development projects in accordance with what the communities demanded and the hard work that we all put into the campaign ”.
“I am available to help anyone who thinks I can be of help. There are many opportunities throughout the country and we must broaden our search and search for appointments beyond the DCE position so that in the end we can get more space for our development as a constituency, ”he assured party stakeholders.
Simon Peter Ofosu, the 2020 NPP parliamentary candidate for Akatsi North won a total of 4,575 votes representing 31.89 percent, compared to Nortsu-Kotoe’s 9,770 votes representing 68.11 percent, an improvement in the electoral luck of the party in 2016, where Dr. Amuzu of the NPP obtained 1,379 votes (10.7%) and Mr. Nortsu-Kotoe, 11,482 (89.3%).
