The fourth season of The Last Kingdom is finally here, bringing with it more shocking character deaths and devious plots for the future of Wessex.
Uhtred has once again seen an existential threat to the Saxons, but that doesn’t mean his job is done.

When is the last season of The Last Kingdom on Netflix?
It has not yet been confirmed if The Last Kingdom will return for a fifth season on Netflix. No doubt the streaming service will soon make a decision based on the popularity of the latest episodes.
Speaking to RadioTimes.com In our Q&A for The Last Kingdom, executive producer Nigel Marchant said: “We have high hopes, we would love to do a fifth season. I think we all want to tell a story and it is always much more satisfying if you can tell a full story throughout the different seasons. I think I speak for everyone when I say we really love doing it. “

What could happen in the fifth season?
If Season 5 were green-lit, there are many directions the story could follow.
Executive producer Nigel Marchant said RadioTimes.com: “I think we want to tell the story of these separate kingdoms coming together and how that union happens, and Uhtred also returns to Bebbanburg? Do you get your dream? Find your legacy? And what is their participation in the union of these kingdoms? Therefore, we would love to continue. “
One of the most important issues in the plot that was pending at the end of this season is whether Aelswith survives his poisoning at the hands of Aethelm.
Eliza Butterworth, who has played Aelswith since the first season, spoke to RadioTimes.com on whether his character could get ahead.
She said: “It was really exciting to play her on those most sensitive sides, not only emotionally but now physically as well, we really see her unravel and completely weaken. And those around her feel complete and total sympathy and realize that they do need it. It’s pretty sad to see her go, so we don’t know. We do not know … “
There are also many more stories to tell about the sons of Uhtred, Young Uhtred and Stiorra, the latter have been associated with a Viking warrior in an attempt for peace.
Each season of The Last Kingdom freely adapts two books from Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Stories novel series. The fourth season addressed the seventh and eighth installment, The Pagan Lord and The Empty Throne.
The fifth season would likely be based on Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer, first released in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
