The French forward has yet to raise the biggest club competition in European football, but doing so in Paris could also lead to his departure.
Kylian Mbappé plans to win the Champions League at Paris Saint-Germain before moving on to a “great club,” according to former PSG midfielder and current club ambassador Youri Djorkaeff.
The 21-year-old has been the subject of frenzied speculation in recent months, with rumors suggesting that some of the sport’s biggest clubs are preparing a hefty offer to get him away from the Parc des Princes.
La Liga giants Real Madrid and Premier League champions Liverpool are among those who will be linked to a successful move for the World Cup winner, who is out of contract in Paris at the end of the 2021-22 season.
Now in his fourth season at PSG, Mbappé has won every national club trophy in France, although the Champions League continues to elude him.
He came agonizingly close to lifting the famous trophy last summer, but saw his team fall at the last hurdle thanks to a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in Lisbon.
Former France international Djorkaeff believes Mbappé plans to lift the Champions League before moving on in a quest to win silver in other major leagues around the world.
“I think Mbappe will always have the right opportunity,” he said. Fans of Paris. “Now he is in a project. Entering his fourth year in Paris, he is a young player. I don’t see him stay at PSG for 10 years.
“His future is to win titles on all continents, something few French have done.
“Last year he had a great opportunity to win the Champions League. Unfortunately, it did not. This year you will still have the opportunity. The ideal [scenario] is that he wins it and then signs for a great club. Everyone will be happy. “
Djorkaeff also foresees a scenario in which Mbappé leaves PSG without taking the biggest prize in European football.
He says it would be “difficult” if that were the case, but he wouldn’t blame the striker if he left before lifting the Champions League with PSG.
“It will be a regret for him, but no single player can be blamed for the failure of a club,” added the former Monaco and Inter midfielder.
“Mbappé represents the club, but there are too many things that come into play. But it would be a shame for him. “
