Hollywood’s diversity problem is not a secret. But the industry’s leading trade publication, The Hollywood reporter, it has become a little more diverse with the addition of ex Associated Press Nekesa Mumbi Moody Editor. THR announced today who has hired Nekesa Mumbi Moody as its editorial director, the publication’s most important editorial role. This is a change that followed the separate commercial roles with Matt Belloni.
Axios reports in an exclusive interview with Moody that “he hopes to bring a global perspective to the publication and double the coverage of the cultural changes taking place in Hollywood around issues such as diversity and #MeToo.”
In a statement, Moody said “Hollywood reporter It has consistently produced some of the most important, informative, and revealing stories about the entertainment industry. I am delighted to join and look forward to building on the incredible work of its journalists as Hollywood faces new challenges in the midst of historic change. ”
Some of those changes were, more people of color and needy women behind and in front of the camera and, of course, the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis. “There are so many things that change. Hollywood was already going through a lot between the increase in streaming and the challenges to traditional formats,” Moody told Axios. “The most important thing right now is the change that happens on a daily basis. We don’t know what’s going to happen to movie theaters or other things within the industry in terms of returning shows, schedules, etc.”
Moody, who served as global publisher of entertainment and lifestyles at The Associated Press Since 2012, he oversaw a team of 40 journalists and directed multi-format entertainment coverage, breaking news, and production of exclusive content for newspapers, digital media, and broadcasters. In her old role, she too managed the industry’s video, text and photo coverage, including movies, music, games, television, fashion, food, travel and events.

Before her role as global and lifestyle editor at The Associated PressMoody went from being a national publisher in 1998 to a music editor in 2000. During her more than 20-year career in the news service, Moody interviewed some of the biggest names in the entertainment world as Barbra Streisand, Beyoncé, Luciano Pavarotti, Prince, Taylor Swift, and Kanye West. Moody was also the first to report the death of Whitney Houston, and the first person to obtain official confirmation of Prince’s death.
