A group calling itself the Fomena Liberation Movement is demanding the removal of the president of the New Patriotic Party (PNP) for the Fomena electoral district, Akwasi Anti Asamoah.

The demand, according to the group, is a condition for the elected deputy, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, who won the constituency as an independent candidate, to align himself with the PNP in parliament.

The deputy had been the object of defamation since he separated from the PNP to contest the electoral position as an independent candidate.

President Akufo-Addo, prior to the elections, had expressed disappointment at his refusal to follow his advice not to go alone.

The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye, also declared Fomena’s parliamentary seat vacant on the back of the PNP application.

But a lot has happened after the MP’s successful campaign, as he became the only independent candidate in a possibly hung parliament.

As Asiamah’s role becomes crucial in the next House, her constituents are demanding the heads of some party executives who they believe have done little to improve the lot of the community.

Among them, key, according to the Fomena Liberation Movement, the president of the PNP in the electoral district, Akwasi Anti Asamoah, who they say was defending a divided front in preparation for the elections.

“We want the president of the party to be removed,” one member told JoyNews’ Nana Yaw Gyimah.

She said “Akwesi Anti and the executives are the problems. They were the ones who fired us but we have been resolved ”.

Another member hinted that; “As we speak now, I can tell you that those who call themselves executives didn’t even vote for Akufo-Addo because they didn’t even campaign for him.

According to data provided by the Election Commission, the PNP has 137 parliamentary seats closely followed by 136 for the NDC with Sene West standing out.

Andrew Asiamah Amoako is the only independent candidate in a 275 constituency parliament.
