A framework for grant disbursement has been agreed to help Ghana fully reap the benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

The agreement was signed between the government of Ghana and the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyeremateng says the agreement, when fully implemented, has the potential to boost intra-African trade by up to 52.3 percent by 2022 and could double as non-barriers are removed. tariffs.

Speaking at the 2nd National Conference on the African Continental Free Trade Area in Accra, he urged private sector operators in Ghana to make the most of the AfCFTA agreement.

The conference had as theme: “Empowering Ghanaian companies to reap the benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement within the framework of the National Export Development Strategy (NEDS)”

President Akufo-Addo promised Ghanaian companies duty-free and quota-free trade on the African continent.

The initiative is to empower Ghanaian companies in the country.

President Akufo-Addo reiterated the government’s commitment to helping Ghanaian businesses.

The framework for grant disbursement fulfills Ghana’s commitment and is in line with the host country agreement between the Government of Ghana and the African Union / AfCFTA.

The comprehensive scope of the AfCFTA has 4 components: the Framework Agreement establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area; the Protocol on Trade in Goods; the Protocol on Trade in Services; and the Protocol on rules and procedures for the settlement of disputes.
