The government should be clear on the site for Creative Village – Creative Forum Ashanti

Creative Forum Ashanti, a group of actors from the creative art industry in Kumasi is challenging the government to clarify the proposed site for the National Film Village.

In July, the group petitioned Parliament for the location of the village in the Ashanti region.

More than 200 acres of land in Kunsu in the southern district of Ahafo Ano were secured by the group for the project.

“In our petition, we put forward a proposal saying that we had already had discussions with the Kunsu chief, who had promised us 250-300 acres of free land to present to the government if they decided to build the movie village in the Ashanti region. .

“This decision was made because the Chief of Kunsu had already built a mini film village in his city and used it for many film productions such as ‘Abuburo Kosua’, ‘Su su pre’ and others shown on television,” he said.

However, the Minister of Tourism, Creative Arts and Culture, Barbara Oteng Gyasi, announced a location in Sekyere for the project a fortnight ago.

At a press conference in Kumasi, Conveyer, Austine Woode expressed disappointment that the ministry did not consult them before the decision.

“However, we would like to put on record that during the government consultations for this project, our group that submitted a petition to Parliament never participated.

“At no point were our views similar, but all we heard in the media were two other areas where Hemang and Sekyere had also presented the land to the government.

“On the side of the signing of the memorandum of understanding for the construction of a conference center in Kumasi, Minister Barbera Oteng Gyasi was asked about the decision on the village of the film and she said that the technical committee had decided on Sekyere “.

Therefore, the group is demanding details on how the ministry arrived at that decision.

“We would like the Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts to formally pronounce on the decision made on where to build the film village and give the industry players compelling reasons why one particular area was selected over the other two.

“This announcement should come with clear timelines for the project, so that we can all properly track the progress of the work.

“We request these official statements to end the dispute that has involved some industry players on this issue,” he said.
