The government has extended its free water supply package for all Ghanaians for another three months starting October 1, 2020.

A statement from the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources said the decision is part of additional measures to allow Ghanaians to adhere to hygiene protocols and mitigate the spread of the new coronavirus.

“This is to allow Ghanaians to continue protocols, especially hand washing under running water, to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic,” the Sept. 23 press release read.

President Akufo-Addo, during the close of March, cut electricity rates in half and provided free drinking water.

In June, it further extended the free water supply for another three months to ease the burden on Ghanaians.

The Sanitation and Water Resources ministry has warned all tanker truck owners and service providers to refrain from charging or selling water to consumers, as the government pays for the service.

The ministry also advised Ghanaians to “use water wisely in compliance with protocols,” as described until December 31, 2020.
