The Police Administration is committed to prioritizing the well-being of its personnel from now on so that they can give their best, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) James Oppong-Boanuh.

Addressing participants at the first wellness steering group meeting in Accra, he noted that this, when done, will ensure accountability for the Plan to achieve organizational effectiveness.

“This meeting supports the Police Administration’s commitment to prioritize the well-being of its personnel and ensure the accountability of the Scheme to achieve organizational effectiveness.

It is a fact that human capital is the most vital asset of all institutions and the Ghana Police Service is no exception. It is considered a critical factor for administrative success in addition to being the main determinants of the police image. Therefore, prioritizing the well-being of staff can mean an advance in organizational effectiveness. It is generally said that ability allows a person to perform. However, motivation drives a person to perform. It is in this direction that the Wellness Plan is considered a relevant tool for organizational development ”, he stated.

He regretted the fact that the Social Welfare Plan has been relegated to the background over the years, and praised the current COP Director General, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah, for bringing it to life again.

“The available records indicate that the management of the scheme, over the years, has not been regulated by any guide. As a result, the documentation was nothing special. We need a paradigm shift in this regard and the time is now. It is comforting, therefore, to acknowledge the determination of the current DG / Welfare, COP / Ms. Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah to effectively restructure the Plan for the collective benefit of all staff, ”he said.

For its part, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah stated that the concept of employee well-being has been used by many organizations as a strategy to improve employee productivity and also alleviate social problems critical to employee well-being. , thus improving human development capacity. in the workplace.

“It is obvious to see that work-related problems can lead to a poor quality of life for employees and a decrease in performance and productivity. This required the formation of the Ghana Police Service Welfare Plan by the Police Administration, ”he stressed.
