The general secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP), John Boadu, has suggested to the Electoral Commission (EC) to blacklist the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) from its IPAC meetings.
According to him, the opposition Democratic National Congress at all times finds fault with the Electoral Commission, making him wonder what the NDC wants from the Electoral Commission.
“I don’t know what the NDC wants from the Election Commission. If you look at the way Asiedu Nketia is speaking, if I were the Election Commission, I would not call the NDC for any meeting, because with each turn of the event, the NDC will find fault with the Commission, ”she said.
He pontificated on Okay FM’s morning show ‘Ade Akye Abia’ that the NDC itself opposed the idea of the Election Commission compiling a new voter register, as they threatened to do everything possible to stop the registration exercise.
“When we were about to do the new registration, the NDC said that registration is not possible. . . that we shouldn’t do it because of the coronavirus, but when registration began, they were the first to register, ”he said.
He stressed that the NDC persists in the desire to discredit the voter registration exercise that its leader, former President John Mahama, after registering, described the exercise as a great success.
However, he told top members of the Democratic National Congress (NDC), especially Secretary General Johnson Asiedu Nketia, to stop crying over spilled milk, as nothing can be done against voter registration.
“Former President Mahama, who heads the NDC, said the exercise was a great success. . . I don’t think you can do anything with spilled milk; no matter what you said, we are done with the search, ”he said.
Reacting to the complaint about the voter display exercise, John Boadu said the reason for the display after the compilation of the new registry is to provide political parties and voters with the opportunity to verify whether their information in the registry is correct.
He reiterated that political parties are given an electronic copy of the draft of the voter register so that they can print copies of the voter register for their agents at the fairgrounds to verify the information in the register.
“What Asiedu Nketia is saying, it’s like he’s joking to the point that if someone doesn’t find his name in the registry, they’ll just add his name. Is not true; The EC, in addition to the computer with which the officials are working, has something called a voting book where all those registered are registered, ”he said.
“That book is on the voting table, and therefore if the computer is down, the record of his name is there. There is no way for EC to go to any polling place and add people’s names to the register when they have not participated in the registration exercise. The voting book is such that there is no way someone can be added to it; it is a chained manual record, so there is no way to add someone to the voting book, ”she emphasized.
He mentioned that the display exercise will allow political parties to address discrepancies in voter registration and be captured on the inclusion list if people’s names are not on the registry.
