Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos said Spain needs football to boost the economy and distract fans as La Liga contemplates a return in June after the coronavirus outbreak.
The League has been postponed since March due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has wreaked havoc worldwide, killing more than 283,500 people and crippling the sport.
A resumption of mid-June has been promoted for the 2019-20 campaign in Spain, where Barça led the table ahead of Madrid in 27 games.
On Sunday, La Liga president Javier Tebas suggested June 12 as a possible date for the league to return, although he emphasized that any resumption of the game would require approval from health authorities.
Ramos is eager to leave, and he tells Movistar: “Getting started needs time, the country needs soccer as economic support and people need it as a distraction.”
