The Chairman of the Board of the Global Alliance for the Prevention of Armed Conflict, Dr. Emmanuel Bombande, has stated that the claims made by the separatist group in recent attacks should be considered irrelevant, as Ghana has enjoyed cohesion and unity for more 60 years.

“The separatist group is simply an opportunistic organization seeking to subvert the will of the people who voted to join Ghana in the 1956 plebiscite,” he said when speaking with Nathaniel Dadzie on JoyNews’ PrimeMorning.

He claimed that the group has not shown respect for the principles and values that informed the plebiscite.

According to Dr. Emmanuel Bombande, the separatist group has no legal basis to seek a compromise with state officials on the alleged status of “Western Togoland”.

He refuted the claim of former Hohoe MP Kosi Kedem, who insists that the government must involve the separatist group because it has a legitimate claim to independence.

He revealed that the actions of the separatist group are a time-wasting strategy that can lead to the destabilization of the country.

Dr. Emmanuel Bombande urged all Ghanaians to appreciate the bosses who have used their positions of influence to condemn the attacks.

Following the recent arrest of those suspected of being members of the Group, Dr. Bombande said that the human rights of the arrested suspects should not be violated in order not to incite further violence by the secessionist group.

“The human rights of the 31 currently on trial must be respected so that the separatist group does not capitalize on any abuse.

“This will exemplify that the modern democratic state of Ghana deals with everyone with justice and fairness,” he said.
