Manchester City’s association with the NHS is facilitating 1,000 coronavirus tests per day at Etihad Stadium.
Premier League champions have been praised for opening the doors of their campus to 26,000 health and social care staff since the pandemic occurred.
The city home is providing key workers with test drives and has trained more than 350 nurses, including those who work at Nightingale Hospital.
Discussions between the club and the NHS determined specific areas in which they could help, and last night the City moved to announce the gestures they had made during the crisis.
“We are proud to play even a small role within a broader community effort that has once again demonstrated Manchester’s strength of spirit, resilience and unity,” said COO Omar Berrada.
‘We are very aware of the role that we can and must play to support our city. From the beginning it was very clear that we could help, but we wanted to understand how we could do it more effectively to provide the best support.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to support Manchester in the coming weeks.”
Etihad Stadium is also being used for what the club describes as a “tailor-made center for rest, relaxation and exercise” for NHS staff. The site will be used for a variety of different purposes as the needs of the health service evolve.
Manchester Central MP Lucy Powell said: ‘The way the club has responded to the challenges our community has faced demonstrates a genuine desire to understand the real issues facing people.
“I am really proud of what the club does during this difficult time and the leadership they have shown.”
