History was made over the weekends when the Pentecostal Church, a leading global Pentecostal church, launched its second edition of the ‘Broker of Peace’ campaign for peace at the Burma camp in Accra.

The launch, which took place under the slogan “Seek Peace and Follow It” – Psalm 34: 17b, began numerous interventions by The Church of Pentecost in all its branches throughout the country, numbering around 17,000.

This year’s edition was inspired by the Church’s Vision 2023 agenda, which has as its general theme, ‘Own the nations: transform all spheres of society with the values and principles of the Kingdom of God.’

The glamorous event that had the President of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs. Jean Mensa, as a special guest of honor, attracted the promoters and agitators of the Christian community, such as the President of the Christian Council and the Bishop President of the Methodist Church. Church Ghana, Most Reverend Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo; The President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops, Most Reverend Philip Naameh; President of the Pentecostal and Charismatic Council of Ghana (GPCC) and General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Rev. Prof. Paul Frimpong-Manso, heads of churches among others. Also present was Deputy Ameer, Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, Alhajj Ahmad Suleman Anderson.

In his welcoming address, the President of the Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, was hopeful that the launch would contribute significantly to a peaceful electoral process.

According to him, God has been merciful to Ghana, as the country has enjoyed peace over the years, especially during the elections. “Ghana is celebrated around the world as an oasis of peace in the West African sub-region and even throughout Africa. As a nation, we have experienced seven peaceful general elections, with numerous by-elections in the Fourth Republic.

“These great achievements did not come by chance but by contributions from various key players among those who are represented here today,” he emphasized.

He noted that for the nation to continue to enjoy peace within its walls, citizens must rise up, seek and pursue peace.

“The Church of Pentecost believes that the Church as the body of Christ has been called to belong to God and sent into the world to serve God’s purpose. It is from that understanding that over the years we have demonstrated an unconditional commitment to the efforts of various governments towards development and nation building.

“As we move towards the 2020 general election, we are confident that the Lord will once again grant Ghana His lasting peace. However, this will not happen by chance. We have to work on it. We need to seek it out and pursue it.

Together, we can continue to make Ghana a model of stability and democracy in Africa. We have done it before and we can do it again, “he said.

The President of the EC, Ms. Jean Mensa, pledged her absolute commitment to peace and the supervision of fair, free and transparent elections. “Today I stand before Almighty God to commit myself and present myself as an Agent of Peace in our nation Ghana and the rest of the world.

“As God’s representative, responsible for the conduct of free, fair, credible, transparent and peaceful elections in Ghana, it is important that I, and indeed the leadership of the Election Commission, signal peace in all of our operations, activities and speeches. As individuals in charge of affairs, we have a duty to conduct ourselves in a way that promotes peace and builds trust.

“We recognize that the way we speak, what we say and our position will help promote peace or otherwise in our beloved nation. It is vital that in everything we do we build trust in our processes, as this will go a long way toward promoting peace in our society, “he said.

It should be remembered that the Church of Pentecost in the 2016 general elections launched the inaugural campaign ‘Agents of Peace’ to convince its members to be ambassadors of peace.
