Cádiz coach Álvaro Cervera attacked his rival, Ronald Koeman, after overseeing a surprising 2-1 victory over Barcelona in La Liga on Saturday.

The visitors suffered their fourth La Liga defeat of the season at the Ramón de Carranza Stadium after conceding two bad goals.

Since then, Cervera has spoken about his team’s victory and admitted that he was happy to see Philippe Coutinho in the starting eleven instead of Ousmane Dembélé.

“We were lucky that Dembélé was not a starter and Koeman did not use pure ends,” he said.

“It was not a relief but for me, the way I see things, I liked Dembélé more. It is one of the few that can get you on that sideline. Coutinho is not so individual and you can defend him as a team ”.

Coutinho was replaced by the Frenchman at halftime after an ineffective performance. Koeman also made more changes in the second half that Cervera felt played in the hands of his team.

“I am surprised that it was removed from Dest. He is a very fast player who can go deep. And when he put Trincao in, we knew they were going to play even more central. And besides that, we saw an opportunity because we knew that Trincao was not going to defend well on that side and would put someone fast who could hurt them. It helped us because when Barcelona reaches the touchline it is very dangerous ”.

The victory means that newly promoted Cádiz has beaten both Real Madrid and Barcelona on their return to La Liga. Cervera’s men are now in fifth position in the table, just two points behind Real Madrid, although they have played one more game.
