The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says that the Bolgatanga-Bawku highway, which has been left unbuilt for several decades, will be completed by the end of December 2020.
According to President Akufo-Addo, “the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Polimakom highway, which has been the subject of many broken promises, the last one from the NDC presidential candidate, then president, is now being visibly addressed and will soon be completed.”
Addressing the House of Chiefs of the Upper East Region on Thursday, October 8, 2020, as part of his 2-day working visit to the Upper East Region, the president told the chiefs meeting that on the first day from his work visit he had seen him visit the construction site.
“In fact, fifty (50) kilometers of the 96.5-kilometer highway were completed in first-class condition and are now in use. The remaining 46.5 kilometers, according to the Minister of Roads and Highways, that instrument of development of our country, is expected to be completed in December, “he added.
Another major project underway in the Upper East region, the president said, is the Pwalugu multipurpose dam, “the largest investment in the entire northern sector of our country since independence.”
Upon completion, President Akufo-Addo stated that “the eight hundred and eight million dollars ($ 808 million) project, whose financing has been fully secured, will help the Region not only increase its generation of electricity for development, but also which will also finally put an end to the threat of perennial floods that has devastated the Region for decades. ”
As part of the Government’s Agenda 111, which seeks to build District Hospitals in Districts without hospitals, over the next twelve (12) months, the President declared that the Government will build District Hospitals in seven (7) Districts without them. in the Upper East Region.
“They are the districts of Binduri, Builsa Sur, Kassena Nankana Oeste, Nabdam, Pusiga, Bolgatanga Este and Tempane. The hospitals will have a capacity of 100 beds, fully equipped, with adequate accommodation for medical personnel, that is, doctors and staff ”, he added.
In giving an account of the main activities carried out by the Government in the last three and a half years in the Upper East Region, the President indicated that there are 1,488 projects in execution in the Region, 688 completed and the remaining 800 in progress.
“Of the 688 completed projects, 94 correspond to the education sector, 20 to the health sector, 13 to the road sector and 269 to the water and sanitation sector. The 800 ongoing projects include, among others, 71 in the education sector, 17 in the health sector, 13 in the road sector and 495 in the water and sanitation sector, ”he added.
On the subject of the language of instruction used in schools in the Upper East Region, President Akufo-Addo stressed that “I have asked the Minister of Education, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to work with the Ghana Education Service and Winneba University of Education, to ensure that grune becomes one of the languages used for teaching and learning in schools in the Region.
Reiterating the support of his Government, the Government will continue to support the institution of the Headquarters to be strong and resilient, the president affirmed that six new office complexes and bungalows would be provided to the six new Houses of Regional Chiefs.
“In addition, as I have already said, we would endeavor to provide the institution with the necessary support to resolve leadership issues and conduct investigations in the many relevant areas to curb conflicts related to leadership,” he said.
The President reinforced the government’s commitment to guaranteeing peace and stability for the nation, in the run-up to the December elections.
“Ghana has rightly earned a reputation as the leader in democratic governance on the continent, a reputation that I am determined to uphold and actually enhance before, during and after the December 7 elections. Of course, it would need your full cooperation and cooperation to help achieve this. We must all work together to create the environment that will allow the people of Ghana to make their decision on December 7 in freedom, peace and security. It is their right, ”said President Akufo-Addo.
