France Football has decided not to award the Ballon d’Or this year after the coronavirus pandemic affected the football calendar. The decision seems somewhat controversial now, with many believing that the absence of the awards show is robbing one player in particular of his big moment.
Robert Lewandowski has been the scoring face of Bayern Munich’s success in recent months, shooting the Germans to a Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League hat-trick.
“We won everything we could have done with Bayern. In all competitions and I was the top scorer,” Lewandowski said. “I think the player who succeeds should win the Ballon d’Or.”
This season, the Polish forward has scored 10 goals in his first five Bundesliga games, putting him at the top of the European Golden Boot charts.
