Atlético de Madrid’s defeat in the Copa del Rey against Cornella will be one of the worst results of the Diego Simeone era at the helm.

Renan lodi
It seems that the more important Renan Lodi becomes for Brazil, the less important he is for Atleti.
Simeone has spent a lot of time making Lodi a complete player, and at times last season it seemed that way.
But it certainly wasn’t Wednesday night.
With his place in Simeone’s usual starting eleven being filled by Mario Hermoso, he could be leaving the club soon.
Lucas Torreira
It is not yet clear if Torreira’s parent club, Arsenal, is looking to sell him, but what is clear is that the Uruguayan does not seem capable of directing a midfield for a club like Atlético.
It doesn’t lack intensity, but it needs more than that.
It doesn’t seem likely that you will have many more opportunities before your loan runs out in the summer.
Saul
Saúl will continue to be a player who gets minutes with Simeone, but he needs to find his best form again.
However, with a spot in Atleti’s first-choice XI not really open, that might be easier said than done.
Academy players
It would be unfair to point out the only homegrown players in the XI, goalkeeper Miguel San Román and Ricard Sánchez, but their performances left doubts.
San Román made some good saves but was very insecure in the air, and Ricard’s poor defiance led to his sending off.
