The Christian Mothers Association – Ghana, with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, has trained Peace Ambassadors in the Keta-Akatsi Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church.
The day’s training workshop under the theme “Women collaborating in the election process: a credible and violence-free election 2020” was attended by members of the Association of Christian Mothers strategically selected from parishes within the Diocese of Keta- Akatsi.
The trained Peace Ambassadors are required to spread the message of peace before, during and after the 2020 General Elections in their deaneries, parishes and groups.
The association’s Executive Secretary, Mother Olivia Ansu Amponsah in her open comment, stated that Ghana has gone through numerous Voter Registration Exercises peacefully, but the recent one recorded few violent incidents that even resulted in the death of some citizens.
He added that these violent incidents have led the Association to embark on the mission of training some mothers selected from the Association as Ambassadors of Peace and deploying them for the purpose of conducting Civic Education and preaching Peace.
Mother Emily Agozie, president of the Association’s Keta-Akatsi chapter stated that the Association is equipping Christian mothers with the knowledge necessary to preach peace to the brave and energetic youth of the country, which can be used by some politicians to perpetrate violence during the next general elections and urge them not to give in to such acts.
The Rev. Vincent Adzika, District Director of the NCCE South Akatsi Office led students through the following topics; Active participation in the electoral process, the role of women as ambassadors for peace; The local government system and good citizenship; Speak in public and enter the community; The functions of the three branches of government. etc.
Rev. Adzika congratulates the trainees for accepting the challenge and encouraged them to do their best for the peace of the country Ghana.
Mr. Jordan Dzikunu, a retired NCCE staff member, in his presentation challenges mothers to be available for leadership roles in both the political and social context when the need arises.
