Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah says the judiciary is in the process of obtaining information from Member of Parliament for Asawase, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, following the bribery allegations made by the legislator against an unidentified judge of the Court Supreme
Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak alleged in an interview last week that a Supreme Court judge made an offer of some gifts and privileges to a deputy of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), urging her to vote for the New Patriotic Party candidate, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye against Alban Bagbin of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the election of a spokesman for the 8th Parliament.
“Embarrassingly, a Supreme Court judge calls a colleague and tells her what they will give her. She has children, they will help her take care of her children. You can get fuel from a gas station during the four years [should she vote for Prof. Oquaye]”Muntaka said in the Joy News interview, adding that he had evidence to back up the allegation.
However, the Chief Justice, in a statement on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, said that the judiciary has taken a serious opinion of the prosecution.
He said that he views the accusation as one that seriously concerns the integrity of the judiciary, so steps will be taken to deal with the matter properly.
“The general public is assured that the Hon. The President of the Supreme Court considers this allegation of wrongdoing to be a matter of grave importance to the integrity of the judiciary. The Hon. Therefore, the Chief Justice is taking steps to request the assistance of Deputy Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, to establish the facts so that the matter can be dealt with properly, “said the Chief Justice in a statement signed by the judicial secretary, magistrate Cynthia Pamela Addo.
The statement said the public will be informed of what will happen next regarding the case.
