Ghana’s former High Commissioner to the UK and Northern Ireland, Ambassador Victor Smith, has issued a warning to the acting government headed by President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party, about the upcoming 2020 general election.

As a guest speaker on the political talk show ‘Dwene ho biom’ hosted by Boamah Darko on Accra-based Hot 93.9 FM, he stated that the upcoming elections will be fire for fire, thus hinting that if the PNP tries to address Elections with violence, they (NDC) will retaliate in the same way.

Referring to the incident of the Ayawaso West by-elections in January 2019, Ambassador Smith revealed that had it not been for NDC National Chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo calling for a “withdrawal”, things would have been quite horrendous. . He said during the interview, “If the government in power causes problems on December 7, things will not go well for them. Let’s go to the polls clean and let the people of Ghana decide who they want to rule this country … ”

Insisting on the comment he made, he added: “You bring fire, we bring fire. Bottom line.”

The former ambassador alleged that the PNP threatened that what happened in Ayawaso West was only a “dress rehearsal” and that the worst is to be expected in the December 7 elections.

The NDC Stalwart further alleged that the incumbent president turned a deaf ear to these threats, ignoring the report that was released after the violent incident.
