Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen said the team’s mentality was key to Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Sevilla that sent the Catalans to the Copa del Rey final.
Ronald Koeman’s team needed an injury time tie from Gerard Piqué to force extra time and then won the tie with a goal from Martin Braithwaite in an eventful match.
Ter Stegen was also called in to save a Lucas Ocampos penalty in the second half, and he also later admitted that it would probably have been the curtain for Barça if Sevilla had scored.
“It was a very special game and the mentality was key to turning the tie around. We knew we had to be patient, but also intense and we succeeded. We want to win titles, ”he said.
“This victory was very necessary, it helps us to move forward. It was one of our goals, so we are very happy to reach the final.
“On the penalty there was a draw. If they had scored us, it would have been very difficult to turn it around, we deserved to go back in the tie. Penalties are a lottery, but I always try to help the team.
