Dozens of supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the early morning of Tuesday, December 1, 2020, held a massive demonstration in Newtown Theme against the arrest and detention of the party’s Eastern Issue parliamentary candidate, Isaac Ashai Odamtten.

The Ghana News Agency learned that on Monday, November 30, Mr. Odamtten was indicted before a Financial Court in Tema, where he was released on bail for alleged financial embezzlement when he was the Metropolitan Executive Director of the Assembly. Metropolitan of Tema.

However, he was unable to meet the conditions of the bail, which led to his detention in police cells.

Supporters, who were infuriated by the development, also blamed incumbent MP and New Patriotic Party (PNP) candidate Daniel Titus-Glover for instigating Odamtten’s arrest through statements on political platforms.

According to supporters, the incumbent MP had alleged on many platforms that the former mayor, Mr. Odamtten, misappropriated funds and signed shady deals as Tema MCE and therefore called for his arrest.

They went on a rampage and destroyed billboards and NPP party property.

Emmanuel Ashitey, a supporter, said: “Why arrest our parliamentary candidate on the eve of the special vote? We will not accept this dirty policy. We are here demanding the release of our candidate ”.

Kofi Anyako, executive member of the NDC’s Eastern Issue constituency, said it was disheartening to observe that a group of people were desperate for power and therefore using all means to win.

He said that they were in favor of peace, but that they would resist any attempt by anyone to prevent the will of the people from manifesting since, according to him, the young people had decided to opt for the NDC parliamentary candidate.
