The Kaneshie District Court granted bail to Daniel Komla Dah, a professional teacher suspected of causing the fire that burned parts of the Kantamanto market.

Daniel Kormla Dah, accused of causing unlawful harm, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted a 200,000 GHc bond.

In addition to the amount of the bond, you will need to provide three bonds, two of which will be substantiated. The court said the bonds must have a residential address or domicile within the jurisdiction of Accra.

This was after his attorney Theophilus Donkor had prayed to the court to admit his client on bail.

The indictment led by Detective Inspector Amoah Richard while opposing the bail request said the investigation has just started and when he is granted bail he will interfere with the investigation.

He told the Court that the investigations are still ongoing and that they have evidence from the defendant’s Facebook page.

He told the court that they have not yet obtained an order to access the evidence on their Facebook page and therefore should not be granted bail.

The court chaired by Her Worship Rosemond Duodua Agyiri after hearing the parties admitted the defendant released on bail.

According to the brief facts presented to the court by Detective Inspector Richard, the suspect is a teacher by profession and a resident of Ho in the Volta region.

He said that on December 15, 2020, there was a fire outbreak in Katamanto in which many stores, goods and other properties were burned, amounting to several million Ghanaian Cedis.

He said the cause of the fire is suspected to be arson and on December 18, the suspect was arrested in Ho for investigation.

He told the court that investigations revealed that the suspect is a member of a Facebook group chat platform called “NDC Administrator.”

He said that on December 14, the defendants posted a message on their platform to say “tomorrow we will burn Katamanto.”

Therefore, he was arrested and in his cautionary statement denied the accusation. The investigation is still ongoing.

The case was postponed until January 4, 2021.
