Take security challenges head-on! | Social

There is no doubt that the public is concerned about the security situation in the country and wants the security agencies to fix it immediately.

In recent days, it appears that the security situation is worsening with the increase in robberies and attacks on people by thugs and thugs across the country.

The worst thing is that the political season has brought with it threats to personal safety and conflicts between political opponents.

These events have led individuals, civil society, chiefs, and religious organizations to express their concerns about the security situation in the country.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is the latest chief to add his voice by speaking what many are thinking when he asked the Ghana Police Service to take steps to resolve some of the security challenges facing the country to restore trust. public in service.

At a meeting at Manhyia Palace last week, Asantehene reminded the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. James Oppong Boanuh, of recent violent crimes, including highway robberies, and made reference to the murder of the Member of Parliament by Mfantseman, noting that some of the acts that remained unresolved tended to reduce public trust in the police service.

The erosion of public trust in security agencies is said to have fueled the desire for people to clamor for weapons to protect themselves, which, in part, has led to the proliferation of weapons in the country.

Honestly, this is not the first time the country has faced security challenges, but the current situation is alarming due to high-profile deaths, as well as armed attacks against ordinary citizens.

But if citizens, high and low status, complain about the security situation, then something must be wrong and it must be fixed.

The Ghanaian Times is concerned that the situation is getting worse, especially as we prepare for the important elections in which we all want to be peaceful.

It is also worrisome that the citizenry becomes anxious and confidence in security fades as they arm themselves to protect themselves.

These are not good signs because the proliferation of weapons, if left unchecked, can spiral out of control and present its own security challenges.

It is our humble request that the security apparatus fully appreciate the current malaise that is taking root and is a nightmare for the majority of the population.

It does not go unnoticed by us that the police are at a disadvantage in terms of human and logistical resources and while we sympathize with them and ask the government to increase its support, we also urge the police to improve their game so as not to lose audiences. trust.

In fact, the public’s trust in the police and other security agencies is very important, something that they must continuously watch closely in the performance of their duties.

And the only way to do that is to improve the security situation in the country.
