Jamal Lowe: pace of work meant goals would come, says Swansea City derby hero
Swansea City derby hero Jamal Lowe says Steve Cooper’s team is aiming for automatic promotion from the end of the Championship this season.
The 26-year-old Lowe scored both goals when Swansea claimed victory over neighboring Cardiff City on Saturday.
The former Wigan forward says that after last season’s play-off loss to Brentford, Cooper’s players have their eyes on the top two and the Swans are currently third, one point behind second.
“That’s where we want to be,” he said.
“Everybody wants to be there. The guys finished in the play-offs last season and they all want to be better.
“We have played practically everyone (in the Championship) now. We have seen the quality teams, but we are one of them. We are there and we deserve to be there.”
Cardiff’s victory briefly pushed Swansea into the automatic promotion spots until Bournemouth’s beating of Huddersfield saw them slide back to third place.
Cooper have won two and drawn one of their three South Wales derbies without conceding a goal, while Swansea have not lost to rivals since a Steven Caulker goal gave the Bluebirds victory in a Premier League match in 2013.

“It’s good that we’ve given the fans something to be happy and proud of,” Lowe added.
“The guys are playing well. Everything is starting to flow, to click, so I hope we can continue with this form.”
Cooper has regularly praised Lowe for his contribution to the Swansea cause since moving from Wigan in the closed season for £ 800,000.
The former out-of-league player has spent most of his career on the wing, but Swansea has asked him to play a front two.
Lowe had scored just two goals in 18 appearances before the weekend and had gone 10 games without finding the goal.
“It’s been a few weeks where I’ve had some chances or I could have scored,” Lowe said.
“But I knew a day like this was just around the corner. It’s about keeping that work rate high.
“I know that if I keep putting in the energy and pace of work, it will eventually drop for me. That’s been my thing from day one: working as hard as I can and the opportunities will come.”
