One of Ghana’s independent power producers, Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Limited, has announced plans to expand into Sierra Leone.

The power company plans to deploy 20MWp-50MWp solar PV in Freetown, Sierra Leone, within a year.

The company also anticipates the establishment of another 160MW to be known as the Benkongor Hydro plant in the next four years.

The Company’s Business Development Manager, Elikplim Apetorgbor, released them to the media.

He indicated that the total expected investment cost for the two projects is USD $ 700 million.

According to him, the deployment of the 20MWp – 50MWp solar photovoltaic plant by Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Limited is necessary to increase the power supply in the capital Serra Leonean, Freetown and other parts of the country.

Apetorgbor further noted that the deployment will complement the power supply for future construction works at the 160MW Benkongor hydroelectric plant in four years.

He also explained that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Energy representing the Government of Sierra Leone on the one hand and Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Limited after a meeting with experts from the Ministry of Energy and other stakeholders. on March 29, 2021.
