Some Accra students have expressed their enthusiasm for the reopening of schools amid COVID-19 expressing their readiness to resume academic work.
President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo announced during his 21st State of the Nation Address on Sunday, January 3, 2021, that students of all levels will resume school, following consultations with various stakeholders.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), some students expressed their readiness for the school, stating that lessons had been missed during school closings to contain the spread of the virus.
Elorm Deborah Djayuri, a high school student (JHS), said: “I am happy to be back to school soon because I have stayed home for a long time. Last year, during the lockdown period, I stayed home until October when the president announced that we were going back to school to complete our second term. “
Ernestina Mensah, a student continuing in upper secondary school (SHS) said that although she was happy to go back to school, she prayed that students would strictly observe COVID-19 protocols as the country records a growing number of cases.
Eric Sekyi, a tertiary education student, applauded the government’s decision to reopen schools, saying, “I am a senior and I want to finish the academic year quickly.”
Speaking about the COVID-19 pandemic and class overcrowding, Sekyi said: “It depends on the individual. If we are all able to comply with the established protocols, I think we will be great. My only fear is that some people will not adhere to them. “
Therefore, he appealed to the management of the schools so that everyone strictly respects the security protocols.
All schools, from kindergarten, elementary to high school, must return to school by January 15, 2021.
Upper secondary school students form one and two Gold track students are due to begin lessons beginning March 10, with all form one students on the single track.
The upper secondary school forms two greenways and three students will return to school on January 18, 2021.
Tertiary education students resumed school on January 9, 2021, after a nine-month COVID-19 shutdown.
