The Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has begun distributing laptops to its beneficiaries throughout the country.

The SLTF introduced the laptop scheme as an intervention to facilitate student participation in online learning programs that have been introduced by many tertiary institutions.

This has become necessary as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and to close the digital divide in tertiary education.

The SLTF has more than 30,000 students currently benefiting from loans, all of whom have had to switch to online learning due to the closure of college campuses across the country.

“Our mandate is to ensure that students receive the financial and other resources necessary to enable them to continue their tertiary education smoothly,” said Nana Kwaku Agyei Yeboah, Executive Director of SLTF.

“Since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted academic work, we needed to explore ways that we could support our students to make life a little easier for them,” he said.

SLTF Disbursement Manager Dan Tawiah said that students receiving financial assistance from the SLTF can request that a portion of their loan be used to provide them with a laptop.

“The great thing about the plan is that students can get a high-end HP laptop now, without paying upfront,” he said.

The laptop scheme is part of the lending facility offered by the SLTF and can be accessed by all tertiary education students offering accredited programs at recognized institutions.
