Staff of the Ghana Community Network Limited Welfare Association (GCNET) have announced plans to undergo a series of industrial strikes against the management of GCNET.
This comes after some employees laid off from the company requested payment for their exit packages following a court arbitration award.
In a statement issued by the Association, the president of Social Welfare, Felix Agbodeka, indicated that the decision of the personnel to carry out a sit-down strike is in accordance with article 159 of the Labor Law of 2003 (Law 651).
“The GCNET Staff Welfare Association has resolved to initiate a series of labor actions against GCNET Management. This is to insist on our demands for immediate payment of the redundancy package to redundant personnel in accordance with the Arbitration Award, ”said Agbodeka.
“As of Thursday, September 24, 2020, and until further notice, GCNET workers will be on legal and legal strike in accordance with article 159 of the 2003 Labor Law (Law 651),” he added.
After some layoffs among GCNET staff, a three-member Arbitration Panel appointed by the National Labor Commission under Labor Law 651 and Regulation 17 of LI 1822, and ADR Law 798 ordered GCNET to pay staff redundant their exit packages as established in the provisions of the Human Resources Policy Manual without any variation or adjustment.
