Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on the country’s chiefs to simplify land administration in the country to ensure a well-functioning and efficient regime of boundary title setting and property tracking.
Dr. Bawumia said the government has begun a process of digitizing the country’s land registry across the country to help address the problem.
He said that land administration issues remain a major issue that negatively affects the development of the country’s economy.
Dr. Bawumia pleaded with the chiefs as land trustees to help the government regulate land administration in the country.
The Vice President added that the Ministry of the Headquarters has also instituted a program to help process the establishment of conferences, seminars and other activities in building the capacity of the heads and all the people who have an interest in the institution of the headship.
He said that if chiefs have ever doubted the ties that bind diverse people in Ghana, one only needs to look at the traditional rules and practices that many transcend traditional regions and areas.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia tasked the bosses with leading the fight against outdated practices that have no place in Ghana in the 21st century.
He urged bosses not to be afraid to discard rules and practices that do not fit with modern and current reality, especially practices that directly or indirectly discriminate against women and children.
The newly elected president of the Northern Region Chamber of Chiefs, Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama II, urged the Electoral Commission to be transparent and build awareness with all political parties in every decision it takes to guarantee free, fair and transparent elections. .
He called on politicians not to use indecent language as the nation draws closer to the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The Yaa-Naa expressed concern about the delays in the disbursement of funds to the chiefs’ house. However, he called on the government to support the completion of the NRHC building that has stalled due to lack of funds.
Yaa-Naa also called on the government to provide relief items and other forms of support to flood victims in flooded areas of the region.
