Editor-in-chief of Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. He has asked the current administration to stop using the Armed Forces to do the work of the Police Service.
Contributing to Tuesday’s issue of Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo”, Kwesi Pratt lamented some incidents that have occurred in the country involving the Army.
It should be remembered that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the borders of Ghana were closed.
Air, sea and land borders were closed until His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, during one of his nation’s updates on COVID-19, announced the reopening of air borders.
However, the land and sea borders are currently blocked.
According to the government, to enforce discipline and enforce the border closure, it deployed soldiers in some Regions to protect the country’s borders.
During the Election Commission’s new voter registration exercise, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) made several accusations against the government saying that they were using soldiers to intimidate people in the Volta region, where they have been posted to protect borders.
Kwesi Pratt, in his presentations, has warned the government against the misuse of the Armed Forces.
For him, it is clear that the soldiers have taken over the work of the police and therefore called for this practice to end with immediate effect.
He advised that the police should be allowed to do their job without any interference.
” Let the soldiers do their job and the Police do their job. Under normal circumstances, external security, safeguarding the territorial integrity of Ghana, is the job of soldiers. It is when the issue is out of control that we hire the services of the soldiers, ”he advised.
