A former regional minister from the Upper East is calling on young people in the northern part of the country to stop burning tires on the roads.
Rockson Bukari says such acts could deteriorate the few good roads in the northern part of the country and further increase the risk of accidents.
“I worry about the youth of the North because in every action that is being taken in the streets, you see the youth at the forefront, burning tires and destroying properties that are not justified.
“We are behind development; our roads are bad, our schools are bad, and we need development. So why should young people destroy our roads again? “, Said.
His comment comes after some young people took to the streets to protest against the outcome of the 2020 election results.
This follows the NDC’s refusal to admit defeat after the Election Commission declared President Akufo-Addo the winner of the December 7 elections.
The NDC led by its standard-bearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, accused the EC and the ruling party of overriding the election results to favor President Akufo-Addo.
However, in a Christmas message to the people of the Upper East region and to Ghanaians in general, Mr. Bukari, who is proud to be a senior citizen of Ghana, appealed to former President John Dramani Mahama to turn to the court to seek redress.
Mr. Bukari also discouraged young people from embarking on more demonstrations and burning tires. This, he says, will help foster peace and development in the north.
“I wish to appeal to the former President of Ghana to make this (Christmas) period one for sober reflection and prayers … he should ask the youth and their supporters to remain calm and take the matter to the Supreme Court to obtain a repair.
“I beg John Mahama to remember that no matter how powerful a man is, he cannot direct the course of history. You must remember the possibilities and not the problems, ”he added.
