The former president of the National Peace Council, the Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, called on opposition political parties to stop accusing the Electoral Commission (EC) of planning to manipulate the December elections.

According to him, the commission has been transparent in its dealings and deserves to be trusted.

“From my perspective, the EC has been very transparent, it has always come out to explain things to the public,” he said.

Professor Asante made the call at the launch of the Methodist Diocese Peace Summit in Accra.

In addition, he stated that the EC has worked hard to gain the trust of Ghanaians.

Therefore, he described the credibility and neutrality of the electoral commission by opposition parties as regrettable attacks.

His comments come after incessant assertions by the opposition NDC that the EC president and her deputies are shadowing a hidden agenda to rig the elections for the ruling PNP.

He stressed that, “as far as I’m concerned, from what little I know and have had the privilege of knowing a bit, I think they are transparent and are doing the best they can and I am not. I think someone is putting something in the way to manipulate it, it’s not possible that way. “

He also accused opposition parties of attacking the EC to appeal to its supporters, “But you will always hear political parties doing this, but they have to do that to attract supporters, some of whom wouldn’t even bother to. sit down. and find out if what your parts say is true. They are doing it to the detriment of the country and I want them to respect the same country they want to govern and stop doing that kind of thing, “he added.

Professor Asante also asked the media to investigate such claims before publishing: “And I think that you, as the media, should do your own research and find out if they are telling us the truth and we should accept what the parties say. politicians. ? “
