Stephen Bernard Donkor: Ghana Must Marry The ‘Mask’

The world’s economic activities have not been the same since the deadly Covid-19 pandemic paid us a courtesy call.

No country will ever have the temerity to disabuse the minds of all those who believe that “Covid-19 has done more harm than good.”

Covid-19 is no respecter of persons. Destroy without regard for bribery and corruption. This reminds me of a movie I saw recently.

It was titled “Return of the Ghost.” To some extent, some scenes in the movie could be compared to Covid-19. I know most of the readers of this piece might have seen it too, so I wouldn’t bore you with that. However, for the benefit of newcomers, let me be quick.

The movie focused on a man’s hat and the desire to intermittently throw targets in order to erase them.

Absolutely nothing could change your destiny as long as it touches you. The only man who could see virtually all of these events was not even spared. He speaks less of the “Igwe” of the land.

Like Covid-19, it leads the rich and the broken to their first graves without the rules of engagement.

It is very scary when we see videos of lifeless human bodies in Europe and other parts of the world as victims of this deadly pandemic.

My country has not been spared either. This can be seen in the number of deaths during a period. Covid-19 has managed to take dozens of people from the academic, political, religious and medical professions since its outbreak on March 12, 2020.

Among them are former Forestry Minister, lawyer, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, affectionately called Sir John, presidential adviser, Amoako Tuffuor, Fidelity Bank’s head of corporate finance, Leonard Gikunu, the rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, Professor Jacob Plange-Rhule, Trust Hospital’s respected consulting surgeon, Dr. Richard Kisser, just to name a few.

Covid-19 is still not satisfied as it continues to settle on its cleanup expedition. I cry for my nation this day. I have been trying to understand the reason behind the increase in recorded cases of Covid-19.

Is it that “the second coming of Jesus Christ is near or is it a mere indifference to a simple instruction”? Strange to me, most Ghanaians view the face mask as the new enemy, hence their unwillingness to use it.

Others are true skeptics of Covid-19. How can we move forward with all these problems? You cannot survive without water even if it eliminates your entire family.

It’s a must. Get it. Our case continues to be appreciated not by politics, parties, churches or markets.

It is simply the breach of all the Covid-19 security protocols, in particular the use of masks.

The fact that you are a believer does not allow you to have DDT for breakfast. Jesus Christ taught us many lessons about unnecessary challenges.

A typical example was when the devil asked him to turn a stone into bread. The son of man saw absolutely no sense in it and accordingly rebuked the devil. What am I trying to convey? Let us go together to marry our wife, the “mask” and our homes will be happy again.

If we all decide to wear the masks and avoid any form of negative ideologies, we will triumph over this deadly obstacle.

Furthermore, law enforcement agencies can also help things out by putting strict mechanisms in place to ensure that everyone is strictly adhering to established Covid-19 protocols.

They must do this without fear or favor. Let’s fight together against Covid-19 through the mandatory use of a mask. Certainly, by the grace of God, I will see you healthier and happier after Covid-19. God bless our country.
