Tigres goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán tested positive for COVID-19 for the fifth time, according to ESPN Mexico sources, and the club’s president pleaded that the 34-year-old’s case not be magnified.
Argentine Guzmán has not played since August 12 after contracting the coronavirus, which the player confirmed, and now it is likely that he will miss Saturday’s Liga MX match against Chivas, after having tested positive for the fourth and now fifth time in the last days.

Guzmán said on an Instagram Live Tuesday that he believes he may have contracted COVID-19 during his YouTube show “Nandas Radio,” in which the former Newell’s Old Boys player invites guests.
But Rodríguez believes the media are looking for players to stumble upon and warned not to be critical.
“Being realistic, the media are waiting for a stumbling block, a small sin to be able to generalize and we do not want to hide things, but we do not want to magnify any particular case,” said Rodríguez. “There are players who are better known than others and who are exposed to this type of situation.”
Guzmán and Tigres’ second-choice goalkeeper Miguel Ortega had originally tested positive. And with the club’s U-20 goalkeeper also injured, Carlos Galindo, 20, was returned to Tigres after being fired. He played in the team’s 3-2 loss to Toluca and the 1-1 draw to Pumas, but will likely be on the bench with Ortega now recovered.
Meanwhile, Tigres defender Jorge Torres Nilo returned to training on Wednesday after testing negative for COVID-19, having been out of the team since Aug. 16.
