Former AC Milan forward Alexandre Pato is set to join Orlando City SC, sources confirmed to ESPN.

The Lions mocked the signing with a pair of tweets on Friday that contained a photo of a duck. (Pato means “duck” in Portuguese). An announcement could come as soon as this weekend.

A source told ESPN that Pato, 31, signed a one-year contract with the help of the allocated money and that he will not be a Designated Player. The deal includes an option for an additional year. Orlando recently sent forward Daryl Dike on loan to Barnsley from the English Championship.
Pato’s long career at the club includes stints at AC Milan, Chelsea and Villarreal, as well as several Brazilian teams and at China’s Tianjin Tianhai. He was recently on the books for Sao Paulo, his second stint with the club, and one in which he scored nine goals in 35 league and cup games. But he has been without a team since he and Sao Paulo reached an agreement in August 2020 to terminate his contract.
His most successful stint at the club level came with AC Milan, where he played from 2007 to 2013. During that time, he scored 63 goals in 140 league and cup games, and helped the team win a Serie A title in 2010. -11 and the Italian Super Cup in 2011.
Pato is a former Brazilian international who scored 10 goals in 27 appearances, the last of which came in 2013.
Pato is the latest Brazilian star to join Orlando, the club where former Milan and Real Madrid midfielder Kaká played between 2014 and 2017. There are currently four other Brazilians on the team’s roster in Junior Urso, Ruan, Antonio Carlos and Matteus Aias .
