The solid form of Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min has been recognized after winning the Premier League Player of the Month award in October.
The South Korean has started working this season for José Mourinho’s team. His near-telepathic connection with his teammate Harry Kane has wreaked havoc on several opponents, helping to shoot the second team at the international break.
The attacker scored four goals and provided three assists over the course of October when Spurs defeated Manchester United 6-1, drew 3-3 with West Ham and beat Burnley 1-0.
The 28-year-old’s latest victory means he has claimed the award three times, having won it in September 2016 and April 2017. He is also the first Spurs player to claim the gong since Lucas Moura in August 2018.
Son battled fierce competition to win the award, with his Spurs teammate Kane nominated alongside Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, Wolves star Conor Coady, Pablo Fornals, Che Adams, Thiago Silva. and Kyle Walker.
In total, Son has bagged eight goals in the same number of top-flight games, putting him on a par with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Mohamed Salah and Jamie Vardy at the top of the scoring chart.
“Thank you for voting me Premier League Player of the Month,” the attacker said in a video posted on Instagram. ‘It’s a great honor, it means a lot to me. I would like to thank my teammates, we are a team.
‘I can’t win this trophy without them, so thank you very much. I’ll keep working hard and can’t wait to see you again. See you after the international break.
The South Korean’s spectacular form has also seen him hailed as one of the league’s top stars, and Gary Neville previously compared the attacker to Salah, Sadio Mane and Raheem Sterling.
“I think Son is so low key and he doesn’t have the brilliance of some of the other best players in the league,” Neville said on Monday Night Football.
“He’s an absolutely incredible player, son, he’s a brilliant player. It would be a nightmare to play against him, he does all the correct runs.
You talk about Sterling regularly, we talk about Mane and Salah in Liverpool, he is there with them. If I was at Liverpool or City, I’d be doing what those guys do. “
However, despite his incredible form, Son does not feel like one of the best players in the highest category.
“I never thought I was among the best players in the Premier League. Honestly, I had never thought about it for a moment, ” he told the Korean Football Association YouTube channel.
“I have always tried to do my best for Tottenham and for the national team and I try to show all my skills. It feels different to play for the national team and for the Spurs. ”
Son won the Premier League goal of the season award for his 90-yard slalom stunner against Burnley in 2019-20, but missed a spot on the PFA team of the year.
