Solskjaer Discards Man Utd’s Move For Forward Agüero, Questions ‘Loyalty’ – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Score, Results

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer criticized players who have crossed the line to Manchester City when he emphatically ruled out a move for Sergio Aguero in the summer.

Aguero leaves City after 10 years at the club, and the 32-year-old forward will become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has ruled out a move for Aguero, while Chelsea has been linked to the Argentine, but Solskjaer made it clear that he does not expect the player to switch to Old Trafford.

“When I was playing for Manchester United, if a rival club tried to sign me and I went to a rival club, where is the loyalty?” Solskjaer said.

“Of course, loyalty is one of my highest values. Therefore, I would not expect that any player who has played for a club for 10 years wants to go to a local rival.”

More than 40 players have represented both Manchester clubs, with Andrew Cole, Owen Hargreaves and Peter Schmeichel among the Premier League-era players who have played for City and United.

Carlos Tevez, meanwhile, switched from City to United in 2009, with a sky-blue “Welcome to Manchester” sign amplifying the controversial play.

Solskjaer was a United player when former teammates Cole and Schmeichel moved to City, while the Norwegian was working with the academy when Tevez made his move 12 years ago.

“I know we are professionals, but when you play for Man Utd, you don’t go to Man City,” added Solskjaer.

“We’ve had examples of that and I really didn’t agree with those moves, to put it that way. I don’t want to name names, but everyone knows who I’m pointing at. I’ve said enough.”

‘Haaland will make his own decisions’

Speaking ahead of United’s Premier League game with Brighton on Sunday, Solskjaer would not face Erling Haaland at a time when the Borussia Dortmund forward’s future is the subject of widespread speculation.

“I’m concentrating on the next two months,” Solskjaer said when asked if he could afford to lose his former Molde forward for the second time after trying to sign him in December 2019.

“Whatever happens in the world of football, there are so many places that anyone can go. I will focus on the ones that are here.

“Although I have worked with Erling, it is not right for me to talk about him as a Manchester United manager to talk about him. I can talk about him as a former manager of hers, but he will make his own decisions.”
